Taim pomegranate honey iced tea: Sharp, acidic flavor that also manages to be overly sweet. Out of balance. A shame, because I like most other things from Taim. 2.0/5.0

Pokka Oolong Tea: A timidly flavored herbal drink with no sugar or preservatives. I purchased it to go along with a robust bowl of ramen, but the drink was too murky and faint to be a good pair. 2.0/5.0

Marusan litchi soymilk: Japanese soymilk juicebox flavored with litchi. Neither juice nor soymilk, this strange combination is overly sweet. Despite listing 3g of sugar, the drink contains sucrolose, an artificial sweetener. Overall, one of the more unpleasant drinks I've had recently. Don't be like me and fall for the cute packaging. 2.0/5.0

Hint crisp apple water: Those bubbles on the packaging are just from the impact of the fruit falling into the water, not because the drink is carbonated (which I had wrongly assumed). This unsweetened drink has no artificial ingredients, but the flavor somehow reminds me of green apple flavored blowpops. Perhaps it's because green apples never taste quite as sweet as they do in this drink. 2.0/5.0

Kirks pasito passion fruit soda: Continuing my sampling of Australian carbonated beverages, I purchased this tropical soda to pair with some fish and chips. The soda is sickening sweet but does have a passion fruit flavor, even if it's artificial. On closer inspection, I found that Kirk's is owned by Coca-Cola, though it is from Queensland, Australia. 2.0/5.0

Brooklyn Soda Works lemon and thyme soda: About five years ago, I had a fantastic bottled apple ginger soda from Brooklyn Soda Works at a restaurant in NYC. Since then, I've been looking forward to my next opportunity to try a different flavor from the brand. I also backed them on Kickstarter a few years ago. When I found myself at Smorgasburg for the Brooklyn Record Flea, I visited their tent and purchased a $4 cup of lemon thyme soda. Unfortunately, it was not very good. The lemon was faint, and the soda could use more sweetness t... (read more) 2.0/5.0
