Bernie's Best Organic Autumn's Best Apple Cider: I live very close to Cheeseboard in Berkeley and hadn't had their pizza since I moved in. On a whim back from running errands, and noticing there was a shorter line than normal, I stopped by this popular spot to re-taste the pizza I found exceptional five years earlier. Bernie's Best Gravenstein apple cider: The last time I was a Cheeseboard, I purchased an excellent bottle of Autumn Blend apple cider from Bernie's Best. This time, I opted for the only other flavor available at the pizzeria: Gravenstein apple. Unfortunately, this flavor lacked the depth achieved in the Autumn Blend and altogether tasted pretty typical for a decent store-bought apple cider. Not bad by any means, but also not worth going out of the way for. 3.0/5.0

Bette Jane's Ginger beer: Created in San Francisco, this bottled soda had a good level of potent ginger spice but also has a slight diluted taste overall. Level of sweetness and fizz is appropriate. 3.0/5.0

bevi sparkling water: In my lab's recent leanbox takeover, we've acquired a carbonated beverage machine that has several options for flavored water. I have tried all but the lime and mint flavor and green tea, both drinks I normally wouldn't choose to drink. Bibi Bitter Apertivo Soda: This non-alcoholic beverage has a vivid blood orange flavor and wonderfully balanced citrus and herbal notes. The can doesn't contain any identifying information other than "natural herb and fruit extracts," but it reminds me a little bit of the classic, slightly medicinal flavor of sarsaparilla soda mixed with a bright yet bitter orange kick. Bickford’s Creamy soda: In hindsight, there were a few warning signs: 1) the label has “with artificial flavors” in fine print, 2) the flavor is creamy soda and not cream soda (I thought maybe it was an Australian thing), and 3) when was the last time you saw a red-colored cream soda? Turns out it’s red because of Red 40, which of course impart no actual taste to the drink (also ironically the packaging states “a century of purity”).
