Casamara Club Sera sparkling amaro soft drink: Got this can of soda from Petra in Bushwick. It tastes like someone took the traditional elements of a cola (allspice, cinnamon, and citrus like lemon, orange, and grapefruit) and removed all of the sugar (the entire bottle has 4g of sugar). Quite a medicinal flavor that I would imagine only adults could enjoy. I didn't think it was bad for what it was, but it also wasn't a drink I would ever reach for. 3.0/5.0

Cheng Kang Rare Soybean Drink: I'm not sure what makes it rare, but I recently discovered that Asian grocery stores stock several brands of "rare soybean" soymilk. This one is from Taiwan, and I purchased it at Hong Kong Supermarket in Chinatown. I thought the bean flavor of the drink was very familiar and overall ok, but it was heavily sweetened, so I wouldn't get it again. 2.5/5.0

Chin Chin grass jelly drink: I'm a big fan of gelatin in drinks, from boba to grass jelly. For those who haven't had grass jelly before, it's not chewy like boba but soft (it's less firm than jello). Unfortunately, the drink overall is too sweet, though the grass jelly adds a slightly medicinal flavor that cuts through. Because the jelly settles to the bottom of the can, much goes to waste after the liquid runs out. A good companion, though, to spiced Asian food. 3.0/5.0

Cortese ginger soft drink: This Italian mixer strangely contains no ginger. Instead, it had carrot juice and safflower. The flavor is slightly acidic, on the sweet side, and has no expected kick. It comes in a vivid red color. 2.5/5.0

Dodoya Simple Soybean Drink: A Taiwanese soybean drink that is much lighter and less sweet than your typical American soymilk. Very refreshing. Healthy, hydrating, and invigorating. Purchased from M2M in Manhattan. 4.0/5.0

Dydo Grandtime Vanilla Drink: I found this in a Dydo-branded vending machine at the Tameiko-Sanno Subway Station in Tokyo and decided to give it a try. I couldn't read the Japanese, but I guessed that it was flavored like vanilla ice cream from the graphic on the can. It has a milky, slightly-yellow semi-opaque color and tastes really strongly of Breyer's Vanilla Ice Cream, or something that I had growing up at kid's birthday parties. It was way too sweet and honestly pretty gross. I didn't want to finish the whole c... (read more) 1.0/5.0
