Bandar Tikka Masala Naan Chips: A spiced take on pita chips, these parallelogram-shaped baked chips have a hearty crunch and warming blend of spices both savory and sweet. It doesn't have the meaty flavor I typically associate with the entree version of tikka masla, but it has all the same spices, including turmeric, onion powder, and garlic powder. The predominant aftertaste is cinnamon. An interesting snack, but probably would not purchase again. 3.0/5.0

Garden of Eatin' Organic Ranch Corn Tortilla Chips: The timid version of Cooler Ranch for people who like junk food but also want to eat an organic, healthy, grown-up snack. Chips have a creamy and slightly tart buttermilk flavor with the lightest touch of ranch seasoning. Small serving size; barely satisfying. 3.0/5.0

The Daily Crave Spicy Thai Chili Quinoa Chips: My experience with the brand The Daily Crave, which specialized in veggie-based snacks, has been fairly hit-or-miss (the smoked gouda chips are quite good, but the other cheese flavors I had were so-so). Their Spicy Thai Chili-flavored quinoa chips are the most adventurous I've seen from their line. While I don't normally like quinoa, it lends only a small amount of flavor (that is virtually indistinguishable from other "veggie" chips), and the sweet-and-spicy seasoning is surprisingly tas... Saffron Road Moroccan Barbecue Baked Lentil Chips: Crispy veggie chips that are substantially thicker yet lighter in texture than tortilla chips. Sized for dipping. The moroccan spice blend definitely lends a more distinct character than your typical barbecue flavor. It's less sweet (but still has traces of what I'm guessing is cinnamon), and has a smoky, peppery flavor (my guess is lots of paprika). Overall, though, I found the flavor strong enough that I wouldn't want to eat much in a single serving, and it wasn't memorable enough to be... (read more) 3.0/5.0

Calbee Yuzu and black pepper shrimp chips: I grew up eating MSG-laden Calbee shrimp crackers, so it was neat to see they are celebrating 50 years. This is the first time I tried anything outside their original flavor. The crispy crackers had a tangy slightly sour seasoning that was more interesting than tasty. Still, adding a yuzu flavor to their line seems appropriate and on trend; maybe this will help them reach 50 more years. 3.0/5.0

Better Made Special Barbecue flavored potato chips: This brand of chips was founded in Detroit, which is where I ate a bag during a conference snack break. The chips are thin and slightly crispy but mostly saturated with oil. Seasoned with a sweet tangy vinegar-based powder, it has all the classic flavorings of a bbq chip. It falls squarely in the middle - just so so. 3.0/5.0
