Specialty Selected strawberry soft licorice: Australian "licorice" that luckily tastes nothing like the classic herby snack. Instead, the candy is very sweet, thick, and more gummy than chewy. The type that get stuck in your teeth. Very filling. Substantial. But too sweet. 3.0/5.0

Swedish Fish Tails: Growing up, my family had a Costco membership, which we sparingly used for snacks and essentially never used for candy except for the one time my mom purchased a box of Swedish Fish. The box contained about 20 bags of the original red Swedish Fish, the individual rectangular bags you'd find at the checkout section of a gas station. While I liked Swedish Fish a lot, by the time we were done with that Costco pack, I really did not like Swedish Fish anymore. As an adult, I'd occasionally eat... (read more) 2.0/5.0

Taveners Jelly babies: Since 1904, brits have been able to satisfy their cannibalistic desires with Taveners jelly babies. These gummy candies have a unique frosted coating; biting through it reveals a softer, slightly sticky interior that’s very sweet with classic fruit flavors (simply described as “flavorings” in the ingredients). Good in small quantities. 3.0/5.0

The Nobel Times Super Cola candy: While the packaging says "Since 2014," I have vivid memories of eating the lemon version of this sweet as a child. (The date is likely a result of an acquisition.) Inside are individually wrapped cola-flavored hard candies. Like Warheads, it induces discomforting anticipation of a largely unpleasant sour flavor at the onset; unlike Warheads, there is a much more mild sweetness after the coating wears off. I remember running the snack under the kitchen sink to rub off the salty-bitter exterio... (read more) 3.0/5.0

Tic Tac Peach Lemonade mixers: A few weeks ago, after a long flight of keeping my mouth shut, I was desperate to purchase some mints after I landed. Due to my fatigue and the lack of better options, I purchased a box of Tic Tacs, I brand I haven't had for about a decade. This particular line of \"Mixers\" involves "mints" (or, more acurately, candies) that change flavor as they dissolve. The one I purchased has a Runts-like peach flavored exterior that transitions to a tart lemonade center similar in some ways to Smarties... (read more) 2.0/5.0

Tootsie Roll Watermelon Tootsie Roll Pop: In a bowl of free Tootsie Roll Pops at CopyTech at MIT, I came across this watermelon lollipop, a flavor I hadn't previously encountered. According to Wikipedia, it was introduced in 2004. I wouldn't be surprised if I haven't had a Tootsie Roll Pop in about a decade, but I do have a "soft" spot for Tootsie Rolls generally. Unsurprisingly, the watermelon flavor tastes nothing like the real fruit, yet is not wildly artificial in the way Jolly Ranchers or other hard candies might be. That said,... (read more) 2.5/5.0
