Bricolage Crunchy coconut curry beef chips: On principle, I typically don’t write reviews of snacks at sit-down restaurants (my current working definition of a snack is an item that by itself is not a full meal and can be eaten with one hand on the go - I know it doesn’t work for everything I review here, but that’s the best I’ve been able to come up with). But the crunchy coconut curry beef chips from Park Slope-based Vietnamese gastropub Bricolage are too special not to review. Razor-thin slices of beef come in a fun resealable pack... Grocers Bottling Co Original Soda: I've reviewed over 100 types of sodas on Tasty Snacking, so it's very rare for me to come across a beverage that has a completely unique flavor. This original soda from Grocer's is one of them. It combines fruit and vegetable juice like apple, carrot, and hibiscus, with spices and herbs like juniper, coriander, bay leaf, and sage, all with a slightly spicy aftertaste from the addition of chili pepper extract. It has a slightly aniseedy flavor that's expertly balanced and surprisingly delic... (read more) 4.5/5.0

Grocers Bottling Co Celery Soda: I've been finding it hard to write snack reviews recently, mostly because I haven't had the time to seek out specialty items that excite me and motivate me to keep writing. But I finally made it out to Court St Grocers in Carroll Gardens this weekend. I've been meaning to check out Court St Grocers ever since I tried their excellent soda offerings at BYGGYZ (RIP), my formerly favorite sandwich shop in NYC. Unfortunately, BYGGYZ didn't have all Grocers Bottling Co (a spin-out from Court St... (read more) 4.5/5.0

Shake Shack ChickenShack: A Brooklyn-only, limited edition specialty, the New York-based burger chain pays homage to Southern fried chicken and does it successfully. The white meat fried chicken is remarkably moist, and the fried coating is lightly seasoned and spiced. This classic chicken sandwich is paired with classic accompaniments, including lettuce, pickles, and an herb mayo. The Martin's potato bun is the same as what you find with the burgers: slightly sweet and in good proportion to the meat. As a burger per... (read more) 4.0/5.0

Culture Frozen yogurt with pina colada topping: Culture is a chain of NYC yogurt shops offering both frozen and regular yogurt in an ever-changing menu of flavors, with new menus every day. Their seasonal flavored yogurts are consistently excellent—concentrated and clean with a high quality tart yogurt base. I enjoyed their plain yogurt their pina colada seasonal topping, which had a sweet tropical drizzle and chewy coconut macaron-like bites. It was very tasty and had a great balance of sweet and tart. Look forward to an embarrassing num... (read more) 4.0/5.0
