iTea Matcha milk tea with boba and red bean: This matcha drink from iTea in SF contains red bean and boba as default toppings. While the matcha milk tea was decent, the red bean was heavily sweetened so that this 30% sweetness beverage tasted more like a normal 100% sweetened drink. Texturally, the red bean also seemed canned as it was slightly too soft. As a result, I’d recommend getting the drink but skipping the red bean topping. 2.5/5.0

I-Tea 3G milk tea with boba, grass jelly, and pudding: I made a dangerous discovery that my new favorite bubble tea shop has a location in San Francisco, much closer to work than the Downtown Oakland spot. I ordered their third most popular drink, the 3G, named because of its three toppings: boba, grass jelly, and pudding. It comes with classic milk tea, and, by default, is served in a "chubby" container that's short and squat. I opted for the more portable standard cup (all drinks come in a single size). The black milk tea was done just right -... (read more) 4.5/5.0

Kung Fu Tea Lychee tea with boba and lychee jelly: Purchased from the Kung Fu Tea in Edison, NJ, this tea drink was far too sweet despite specifying 25% sweetness. The boba was also disappointingly soft. The jelly, though, had a decently firm bite. It's too bad there is so much variability with drinks from this chain. 2.0/5.0

Kung Fu Tea honey bubble tea: At last, good bubble tea has come to Cambridge. I was first introduced to Kung Fu Tea in NYC and was happy to find a tea spot offering varied sweetness levels (such as half sugar). There are now several locations in Boston, but the latest location has opened in Davis Square. The honey tea has no added sugar and is refreshingly and naturally sweet. The boba texture is excellent. There is also very little added ice as to not dilute the tea. A medium is $3.50, which is very reasonably priced. E... (read more) 4.0/5.0

Kung Fu Tea golden oolong milk tea with boba: Unfortunately, this tea lacked balance, with too much milk and not enough tea. I got it with half sugar, which was sweet enough. Boba texture was very good, so a shame the drink was not up to par. 3.0/5.0

Kung Fu Tea honey lemonade with boba: This "less sweet" drink (at 30% sweetness) was unbalanced, with an unpleasant amount of acidity that built up over time. The real crime was the boba, though, which was so soft it was almost like chewing gum. No bite whatsoever. Quality control is not good in Chinatown. 1.0/5.0
