The Nobel Times Super Cola candy: While the packaging says "Since 2014," I have vivid memories of eating the lemon version of this sweet as a child. (The date is likely a result of an acquisition.) Inside are individually wrapped cola-flavored hard candies. Like Warheads, it induces discomforting anticipation of a largely unpleasant sour flavor at the onset; unlike Warheads, there is a much more mild sweetness after the coating wears off. I remember running the snack under the kitchen sink to rub off the salty-bitter exterio... (read more) 3.0/5.0

Tilamook Oregon Strawberry Strained Yogurt: This brand of yogurt strikes me as the training wheels of Greek yogurt. If you prefer less thick Greek yogurt and yogurt that isn't as tart but still has the familiarity of fruit-on-the-bottom, this yogurt checks all of the boxes. It's high in protein and has a satisfying by familiar blend of strawberry flavoring. Personally, I prefer the tartness and thickness of other brands of Greek yogurt, but this one certainly isn't bad. 3.0/5.0

Traderspoint Creamery Banana Mango Yogurt: Made with organic milk from grassfed cows, this creamy yogurt has a distinct aftertaste that I haven't experienced before with other yogurts. Slightly sour but also faintly sweet, the closest ingredient I can compare it to is hay. Its on the watery side ("European style") so that when you tip the clear glass container, you can see the liquid flow easily from side to side. I'm unsure if there is any benefit to storing yogurt in glass containers versus plastic or if this is simply a marketi... (read more) 3.0/5.0

Traderspoint Creamery Raspberry Yogurt: Small glass jar with a gold foil top containing European-style organic yogurt. Seems to be perpetually on sale at Berkeley Bowl, probably because it's not as filling as other yogurts (because of its size), costs more (probably because of the packaging), and has a thin consistency that's even more watery than typical non-Greek yogurt. Leans more towards a soup than a yogurt. The flavor is decent but mostly familiar. 2.5/5.0

Urban Foods Black currant and lemon superfood bites: Dense cubes at the intersection of trail mix and granola bar seem to be on trend this year. This version from Urban Foods is more crunchy than chewy overall, with a satisfying and wholesome blend of textures, from crispy quinoa to soft oats. The berry and citrus combination (dried currants and lemon oil) is unique and delicious. Serving size is small and comes at a price (a 5 serving bag is $5). A snack you feel good about eating. 4.0/5.0

Voskos Original plain Greek yogurt: This plain yogurt has a tart, savory flavor that makes it ideal for dips and sauces to pair with dishes. It has a substantial, thick consistency that's much better than your average Greek yogurt. Even better, it's less expensive than Fage and similar alternatives, making it a great value. Purchased from Berkeley Bowl. 4.0/5.0
